Within this mission, the ICT & Data Centre Facility Department at HT is developing a robust and unified ICT ecosystem, with the aim to help deliver reliable enterprise services and mission-critical applications. The Data Centre Facility’s mission is to ensure the highest standards of availability and technical agility, bridging the gap between sophisticated IT infrastructure and groundbreaking life science research.

We are seeking an ambitious Scientific Computing Support to support the activities of the Data the Centre Facility in the ICT & Digitisation Area.

 

Your mission

As Scientific Computing Support, you will be responsible for providing essential technical assistance to researchers, focusing on maintaining high-performance computing resources and supporting the computational researchers’ needs of the scientific community. The successful candidate will be involved in developing and maintaining bioinformatics and data-science software and collaborate with researchers to ensure their computational needs are met. You will report to the Scientific Computing Support Manager.

You will enhance your professional skills by:

  • Developing and maintaining bioinformatics and data-science tools and applications;
  • Providing support for commonly used software and tools and best practices on the usage of the software in a shared environment (HPC);
  • Working with the Scientific Computing Support Manager to ensure project needs are met;
  • Collaborating with the Scientific Training Office to train and support researchers on computing tools;
  • Writing and maintaining technical documentation (e.g. Knowledge Base articles, upgrade procedures, manuals).

 

What you'll bring

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a related field;
  • +3 years in Scientific Computing Support or similar role;
  • Good technical background in Linux Operating System;
  • Good working knowledge in version control systems (Git / Gitlab) and CI/CD pipelines;
  • Good working experience with relevant programming languages (e.g. Python, R) and Bash;
  • Good working knowledge with HPC job schedulers (e.g. SLURM);
  • Familiarity with commonly used Bioinformatics, Data-Science and Structural Biology data analysis software and tools (e.g. Conda, Snakemake, Nextflow, RStudio/Posit, R/Bioconductor, Jupyter Notebook, VSCode, Coot, Relion, CryoSPARK);
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken).

 

Preferred 

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a related field;
  • Good working knowledge of containers technology (e.g. Docker, Singularity);
  • Previous experience with similar role in another Research Institute;
  • Authorship in publications in indexed journals.

This is a permanent contract offered under CCNL Chimico Farmaceutico, Level C1.

Salary: up to € 47.000, depending on the seniority of the candidate.
The position is based in Milan, Italy, within our vibrant international campus.
