Within this mission, ICT & Data Centre Facility Department at HT is developing a robust and unified ICT ecosystem, with the aim to help deliver reliable enterprise services and mission-critical applications. The Data Centre Facility’s mission is to ensure the highest standards of availability and technical agility, bridging the gap between sophisticated IT infrastructure and groundbreaking life science research.
We are seeking an ambitious ICT Infrastructure Engineer (Linux) to support the activities of the Data Centre Facility in the ICT & Digitisation Area.
Your mission
As ICT Infrastructure Engineer (Linux), you will be responsible for the administration, optimization, and security of Linux-based systems within the institute's ICT infrastructure. The successful candidate will ensure the stability, performance, and scalability of mission-critical Linux environments, supporting research, administration, and enterprise operations. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to implement best practices, automate processes, and enhance system resilience and will report to the Core Services Manager.

- Managing, configuring, and maintaining Linux servers to ensure high availability and optimal performance;
- Implementing system hardening and security best practices in collaboration with CyberSecurity, Digital Services, and Research Support teams;
- Monitoring system health, performance, and capacity planning to prevent service degradation;
- Ensuring compliance with ICT governance policies and industry security standards;
- Developing and maintaining automation scripts and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, Puppet);
- Optimizing system deployment and provisioning through Infrastructure as Code (IaC) methodologies;
- Streamlining repetitive operational tasks to enhance efficiency and reduce human error;
- Ensuring the reliability and scalability of backup solutions;
- Implementing and managing backup and disaster recovery strategies for critical systems and principal environments;
- Optimizing backup performance and capacity utilization in line with enterprise needs;
- Diagnosing and resolving complex Linux system issues, ensuring minimal downtime;
- Collaborating with ICT team members to troubleshoot infrastructure-related incidents efficiently;
- Conducting root cause analysis (RCA) to prevent recurring issues;
- Maintaining up-to-date documentation for Linux system configurations and procedures;
- Proactively identifing and implementing system improvements to enhance reliability and performance;
- Contributing to knowledge sharing within the ICT team, ensuring best practices are followed.
What you'll bring
Essential
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field;
- Minimum of 3 years in Linux system administration, IT infrastructure management, or a similar role;
- Deep expertise in Linux administration (RHEL, CentOS, Debian, Ubuntu, etc.);
- Strong knowledge of shell scripting and automation tools (Bash, Python, Ansible, Terraform);
- Understanding of networking concepts, firewalls, and security best practices;
- Good English communication skills, both written and spoken.
Preferred
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field;
- Red Hat Certified Engineer RHCE;
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator RHCSA;
- Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator LFCS;
- ITIL certified;
- Previous experience with a similar role in another Research Institute.
