Extracurricular Internship - Taverna Group

Human Technopole (HT) is an interdisciplinary life science research institute, created and supported by the Italian Government, with the aim of developing innovative strategies to improve human health. HT is composed of five Centers: Neurogenomics, Computational Biology, Structural Biology, Genomics, and Health Data Science. The Centers work together to enable interdisciplinary research and to create an open, collaborative environment that will help promote life science research both nationally and internationally.

 

About the Group

The Taverna group studies brain development and evolution, focusing on the role of intracellular traffic.

 

Internship Project Description

The candidate will study the role of the Golgi apparatus in neural stem cell architecture and cell fate specification during brain development. The project merges concepts and tools from cell biology, neural stem cell biology, advanced robotics for single cell manipulation and developmental neuroscience.

 

Key tasks and activities:

Key tasks include cell culture, iPSCs maintenance and organoid culture. The candidate, under the supervision of the tutor, will support and be involved in:

  • Perform immunofluorescence
  • Confocal microscopy and super-resolution microscopy
  • Image analysis and quantification  
  • Single cell manipulation and lineage tracing in tissue through custom robotics.

 

Essential requirements:

  • Degree in biology, biotechnology or field relevant to this project.
  • Strong interest in neurobiology.
  • Familiarity with cell culture work.
  • Familiarity with immunofluorescence and light microscopy.
  • Fluency in English – HT is an international insitute

 

Preferred requirements

  • Familiarity with iPSCs culture.
  • Academic background in cell biology or molecular biology.

 

Organizational and social skills

  • Excellent communication and team working skills.

Internship duration: 12 months.     

Reimbursement: 800€ gross per month
