Bioinformatician Taverna Lab | Human Technopole, Milan
Build the science that shapes the future of human health.
Application closing date: 10.03.2026
Human Technopole (HT) is an interdisciplinary life science research institute, created and supported by the Italian Government, with the aim of developing innovative strategies to improve human health. HT brings together international researchers and advanced technologies across multiple Research Centres to accelerate biomedical discovery in an open and collaborative environment.
Within this framework, the Taverna group studies brain development and evolution, focusing on the role of intracellular traffic and protein glycosylation in neural stem cells.
We are seeking a Bioinformatician to contribute to computational and data-driven research activities within the group.
Your mission
You will support research exploring how organelles influence neural stem cell behavior and brain development, integrating fundamental cell biology with advanced technologies for single-cell manipulation in tissue.
The group focuses on the role of the Golgi apparatus in neurodevelopment, leveraging the genetics of Congenital Disorders of Glycosylation (CDGs), a group of rare diseases characterized by alterations in the secretory pathway and associated with mild to severe neurodevelopmental defects.
In this context, you will analyze and integrate bulk RNA sequencing, single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq), and spatial omics datasets to model how secretory routes, cell fate decisions and cellular trajectories are altered in CDGs, providing computational and statistical expertise to advance the group’s research strategy.
What you will do
- Analyze and integrate bulk RNA-seq, scRNA-seq and spatial omics datasets.
- Develop, maintain and optimize reproducible computational pipelines for biological data analysis.
- Provide statistical modelling and analytical support to experimental design and data interpretation.
- Manage and curate biological datasets and databases ensuring integrity and accessibility.
- Contribute to scientific documentation, reporting and publications.
What you’ll bring
Essential
- Relevant Master's Degree in Computational Biology, Quantitative Biology or related field.
- Strong background in neurobiology
- Strong background in stem cell biology
- Experience maintaining computational pipelines and biological databases.
- Experience collaborating within interdisciplinary research teams including experimental and computational researchers.
Preferred Skills
- Proficiency in R/Python for statistical computing and scRNAseq data analysis
- Experience with bioinformatics tools
- Expertise in sequencing and gene expression data analysis.
- Knowledge of database management systems and reproducible workflow practices.
Organizational and social skills
- Clear and effective communication of complex analytical results.
- Strong collaboration skills within interdisciplinary research environments.
- Experience contributing to scientific reports, publications and presentations.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to troubleshoot computational challenges and optimize workflows.
- Proactive approach to innovation and continuous improvement.
Why Human Technopole
HT offers an international and dynamic research environment where scientists collaborate across disciplines on topics of biomedical relevance. We promote scientific excellence, diversity and continuous professional development through training initiatives, workshops and conferences.
